The soprano Julie Grutzka was born in 1993 in Aachen, Germany. She started taking singing lessons at the age of 7, which allowed her to gather plenty of professional experience as a soloist and in ensembles already at a young age. Since 2012 she studies singing at the HfMDK Frankfurt, first with Prof. Targler-Sell, then with Prof. Fassbender and Prof. Kelly-Moog. In 2019 she started the concert exam class with Prof. Dahlmann.
During her studies she sang roles like “Destino” in F. Cavalli’s “La Calisto”, or “Sandmann” and “Taumann“ in E. Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In 2018 she was also cast in a children’s production of “Rheingold” at the Frankfurt Opera. In January 2019 she embodied the lead role of “Poppea” in C. Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” for the “Rossi Festival” at the National Theatre in Belgrade. She then went on to an engagement in the production of “Vor Sonnenaufgang” at the Schauspiel Frankfurt and to further engagements at the Staatstheater Darmstadt as “Ninfa” and “Proserpina” in C. Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo”, as well as embodying the role of “Dorinda” in G.F. Händel’s “Orlando”.
Her large repertoires of both concert and songs for solo voice (Lieder) allow her to travel many different places. Apart from performing in Moscow, Israel and Berlin, she was also invited to be part of the project “Sonic Blossom” by the artist Lee Mingwei, where she performed songs for solo voice (Lieder) by Franz Schubert for spectators at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Julie Grutzka holds scholarships of the Richard-Wagner-Verband Koblenz, as well as the Deutschlandstipendium and has thus far participated in master classes with Helmut Deutsch, Andreas Scholl, Christoph Prégardien and Franz Hawlata.
As a founding member of the Backstein Kollektiv, she enjoys exploring the different tasks of co-creating, directing and dancing as well as the pursuit of new inspiration through the interdisciplinary artistic approach.
Next to her singing career she also works as a model.
